Psittacidae – African and New World parrotsĬalyptorhynchus – black cockatoos (2 species)Ĭacatua – white cockatoos and corellas (11 species) Proprietors of small agricultural undertakings are often jocularly or slightly disparagingly referred to as "cocky farmers". In Australian slang or vernacular speech, a person who is assigned to keep watch while others undertake clandestine or illegal activities, particularly gambling, may be referred to as a "cockatoo". The derivation has also been used for the family and generic names Cacatuidae and Cacatua, respectively. Seventeenth-century variants include cacato, cockatoon and crockadore, and cokato, cocatore and cocatoo were used in the eighteenth century. The word cockatoo dates from the 17th century and is derived from Dutch kaketoe, which is from Malay kakatua. Illegal trade in wild-caught birds contributes to the decline of some cockatoo species in the wild. White cockatoos are more commonly found in captivity than black cockatoos. The cockatiel is the easiest cockatoo species to maintain and is by far the most frequently kept in captivity. Some cockatoo species have been adversely affected by habitat loss, particularly from a shortage of suitable nesting hollows after large mature trees are cleared conversely, some species have adapted well to human changes and are considered agricultural pests.Ĭockatoos are popular birds in aviculture, but their needs are difficult to meet. Cockatoos are monogamous and nest in tree hollows. They often feed in large flocks, particularly when ground-feeding. The second and larger branch is formed by the genus Cacatua, comprising 11 species of white-plumaged cockatoos and four monotypic genera that branched off earlier namely the pink and white Major Mitchell's cockatoo, the pink and grey galah, the mainly grey gang-gang cockatoo and the large black-plumaged palm cockatoo.Ĭockatoos prefer to eat seeds, tubers, corms, fruit, flowers and insects. The five large black-coloured cockatoos of the genus Calyptorhynchus form one branch. The remaining species are in two main clades. The phylogenetic position of the cockatiel remains unresolved, except that it is one of the earliest offshoots of the cockatoo lineage. On average they are larger than other parrots however, the cockatiel, the smallest cockatoo species, is a small bird. Their plumage is generally less colourful than that of other parrots, being mainly white, grey or black and often with coloured features in the crest, cheeks or tail. The family has a mainly Australasian distribution, ranging from the Philippines and the eastern Indonesian islands of Wallacea to New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and Australia.Ĭockatoos are recognisable by the prominent crests and curved bills. Along with the Psittacoidea ( true parrots) and the Strigopoidea (large New Zealand parrots), they make up the order Psittaciformes. A cockatoo is any of the 21 species of parrots belonging to the family Cacatuidae, the only family in the superfamily Cacatuoidea. Consensus Protocolīlockchains are goverened by consensus and the type of protocol used can drastically impact on the speed with which decentralised consensus is achieved. These include dApps such as decentralised exchanges, high-throughput payment systems and Internet-of-Things transactions. They have built in a number of important innovations into their Consensus Protocol, internal systems and network engineering.īy implementing these innovations, Harmony will provide a platform for Decentralised Applications (dApps) which were not feasible on other blockchains. In order to achieve the goals of scalability the Harmony built the entire technology stack from the ground up with a focus on optimisation. It’s been a busy year at Harmony, so let’s dig in and explore some of the details of the progress being made. The project has also been able to migrate from the ERC-20 and BEP-2 tokens originally issued to its own native tokens.įinally, the project has implemented a staking system based on Effective Proof of Stake (EPoS). This incentivizes users and could be used for credit ratings, ad exchanges, and other data sharing that’s traditionally seen centralized platforms profiting and users being left with nothing.Īfter launching its mainnet in June 2019 Harmony has seen excellent growth, and as of June 2020 there are more than 1,000 nodes helping to decentralize the network. Harmony also uses its zero-knowledge proofs to enable data sharing with consumer privacy. In practice, Harmony helps businesses to build marketplaces for fungible token usage (such as loyalty points or energy credits) and non-fungible assets (such as in-game digital assets). Harmony also implements optimal cross-shard routing and fast block propagation. The technical focus of the project is on resharding and secure staking with decentralized randomness. They plan to address the issues faced in other blockchain ecosystems through the use of the best research and engineering practices in an optimally tuned system. Harmony provides a high-throughput, low-latency and low-fee consensus platform designed to power the decentralized economy of the future. I will also analyse the long term adoption potential of their ONE token. I will dig into their technology, team and development. In this Harmony review I will give you everything you need to know to make that decision. This after completing a large private seed sale back in May of 2018. They are also the latest project to be raising funds on the Binance Launchpad. Using a "full-stack" approach, Harmony is developing a sharding based blockchain that is not only scalable but provably secure, and energy efficient. They have built their platform from the ground up with optimisation in mind. Harmony (ONE) is one of the latest projects that is trying to tackle the issue of blockchain scalability. Some of the key differences that set the SXS apart from other side by side seats include injection molded foam, plastic harness grommets, seat base water drain, waterproof seam sealant and strategically placed bolster support. We used that expertise to come up with the SXS, which was specifically designed for the Polaris RZR and ACE but will fit in most other side by side’s. For over 50 years, Corbeau has provided the world with the best in seating, including carbon fiber race seats, European luxury seats, American Muscle seats, Off Road Suspension seats, and more. The all-new Corbeau SXS, combines everything that was missing in a quality side by side seat, with the quality and design that Corbeau is so well known for. Years of research and design have gone into the creation of what is the best RZR and side by side seat in the industry. Brackets are included with the seats to allow them to fit into most other side by side’s with little to no modifications. Make sure to use the heat gun when you fold the vinyl over to the backside, and it should hold extremely well once it cools. The SXS Pro is a direct bolt in (no extra brackets required) to the Polaris RZR and will fit in the Arctic Cat Wildcat with our Wildcat brackets. It helps at this point to notch the corners of the vinyl where the trim has a sharp external corner, and put a few slits in it anywhere the trim has a round internal corner, as pictured. Once you have reached the edge of the trim, you can trim the vinyl down to size, leaving about a quarter inch to wrap around the back side. To wrap around contours, heat the vinyl a little until it is soft, then work it around with a plastic card, making sure to clear any air bubbles that you get and avoid any wrinkles. The vinyl responds very well to heat, so be careful and don't get it to hot because it will melt if you do. Anytime you need to wrap around a corner or irregularity, you'll need to break out the heat gun. Once you've got the initial alignment done, you can start working it around the rest of the flat surfaces until you get to the corners. The adhesive is pretty forgiving, and can be pulled off and reapplied rather easily if you mess up. Then take the trim piece and carefully lay it down on top of the trim to get the initial alignment. Once you've cut all the pieces you need, start by removing the backing paper of the piece you want to work with, and lay it adhesive side up on a workbench or table. TechShop is a membership-based workshop that provides members with access to tools and equipment, instruction, and a community of creative and supportive people so they can build the things they have always wanted to make. I have done this on a number of cars, and the technique can be applied to just about anything, some people even wrap their hood or trunk lid with this stuff. The Middle East is a region that has a lot to offer to tourists, with a wide variety of attractions that cater to different interests. As such, they have been classified as “transition countries” due to their connection to two distinct areas. Other countries in Africa, namely Sudan and Tunisia, lie at the boundary of the Middle East and North Africa, with many of their cultural practices and backgrounds being heavily influenced by both regions. Instead, their position on the world map allows them to fall under the jurisdiction of South or Central Asia.Īdditionally, areas like the Gaza Strip and West Bank have long been contested between Palestinian and Israeli politics, as well as other partially recognized states in the Middle East that have had close historic ties with Asian countries, such as India or other nations from Southeast Asia. It should be noted that although countries like Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Pakistan, and select other Levant countries do share a similar cultural heritage and historic importance, they are not actually categorized as “Middle Eastern” countries. The entire region is home to a diverse range of landscapes, including deserts, mountains, and coastal plains. Several countries also border the Persian Gulf, namely, Iran and Saudi Arabia. It is bordered by multiple oceans and seas: the Mediterranean Sea to the west, the Red Sea to the south, the Caspian Sea to the east, and the Arabian Peninsula to the south. The Middle East is situated at the crossroads of Europe, Asia, and Africa. The region has also been the site of numerous conflicts and wars throughout history, including the Crusades, World War I, and the Gulf War. Throughout history, the Middle East has been marked by numerous power changes, with many different empires vying for control over the region, like the Ottoman Empire. It is home to some of the oldest civilizations in the world, including Mesopotamia (modern-day Iraq), Persia (modern-day Iran), and Egypt.
